Hi Jolly BLM DIspersed Camping Area Quartzsite, AZ.
FREE! Tuesday, March 14, 2017
Arrived at Hi Jolly BLM area in Quartzsite at about 4:30, about 6 hrs drive time! But that included a half-hour road work stop just south of Needles, CA, and about a half-hour fuel/lunch break. Still a long day for us. Bob did most of the driving. Temp in the mid 90s but not too bad in the shade with a breeze. Think we’ll stay here at least a couple days.
Wednesday
Cooled off a lot as the sun went down, and made for very pleasant sleeping weather! We decided to bake our big meal of the day in the morning before it gets too hot, rather than waiting till dinner time. This was the first time we’d used the oven in this camper! It took quite a while to find the pilot light, light it, and get it to stay lit. But once that was conquered, the oven worked quite well! We made a recipe I found on FB called Tater Tot Taco Pizza. Substituted sausage for hamburger since Bob won’t eat beef, and it would have been better with cheddar rather than mozzarella, but that’s what we had. The fat content must have been off the charts, but Bob ate a huge plate of it, and it’s kept him satisfied all day!
Drove into town to fuel up and to check out the rug place where we’d gotten a nice one before. Found a nice kokopelli design runner to put in the camper. Looks good!
The CO detector started chirping yesterday when we set up camp. I swapped out the batteries but it wouldn’t make a test sound, so I guess we’ll have to replace it. We checked at a couple places in town for one like it, but no luck. They have them on Amazon, though. I don’t think we’re in much danger since we’re not running the furnace. The smoke detector did go off while I was cooking the sausage, though! It must be really sensitive as there wasn’t any smoke and the windows were all open.
